General conditions are binding to most construction contract and they deal with the normal practices such as payments, duties and schedules. Special conditions, however, will be those clauses that are specific to projects and that either supplement or alter the general terms. As an example, special conditions can be used to cover special site conditions, local regulations or even customized penalties. Combinedly, they make sure that a contract captures the typical expectations as well as project requirement. Careful review should be carried out in both sections during the writing of the draft.
