Construction bidding has three major categories namely open bidding, selective bidding and negotiated bidding. Open bidding permits the display of the proposal by any qualified contractor, a usual situation in various public works. Selective bidding welcomes pre-qualified list of contractors, which is of good quality and reliable. Negotiated bidding refers to the case where there is direct negotiation with one contractor usually on complex or fast track projects. Both techniques have advantages and disadvantages and this depends on the project size, scope as well as urgency.
